Have you considered an apprenticeship after you leave school?
Sheffield City Council and Fortem, the property repairs and maintenance specialist, is once again hosting its annual apprenticeship event on Wednesday March 7th. Students from Years 11 – 13 from schools across Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire are invited to attend.
1200 students and 65 employers have already signed up for the event who have more than 300 vacancies.
136 students were recruited to apprenticeships at last year’s event.
Amy-Jo Laycock was recruited as a Paralegal Apprentice at Irwin Mitchell. She said: “The event gave me the opportunity to meet with employers. It made it easier for me to grasp how I should be approaching employers and the types of opportunities that are available.
“Looking at the apprenticeship route after my A-levels was daunting as it was difficult when my friends had something concrete to start and I had yet to apply for things. However the event put the roles in real life terms and made me want to go down this route even more.
“Rachel came in to school before the event and helped me with my CV and I was confident that it painted me in the best light and put me in the best position to secure an apprenticeship.”
Anita Lloyd, from Yorkshire Artspace, who attended last year’s event said: “Attending the 2017 Be Inspired Event was an excellent opportunity to meet potential young apprentices in person. We were very impressed by the 16 year olds we met. Having a chance to talk with those young people who were interested in our business allowed us to get a feel for their energy and personality.
Councillor Jackie Drayton, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families at Sheffield City Council, said: The ‘Be Inspired’ event is a wonderful opportunity for young people to meet with businesses from across the region to find out more about the world of work and help them get a head start in their chosen career.
“It’s also a chance for Employers to see that Young People have so much to offer to businesses of all sizes and in all sectors. It’s great to see a packed Cutlers Hall full of people building working relationships for the future’.
